Sigma Sigma Sigma Philanthrophy
Sigma Sigma Sigma's National Foundation supports the philosophy "Sigma Serves Children" by supporting play therapy at Children's Hospitals in Chapel Hill and Dallas. The Sigma Foundation also makes local grants available for Sigma chapters around the nation to support their area hospitals in providing support for hospitalized children.
Nu Chapter raises money to support the efforts of the Sigma Foundation by sponsoring the Mr. Robbie Page Pageant in the fall semester each year. Robbie Page was the son of one of the National Presidents of Sigma Sigma Sigma who contracted polio. Sigma Sigma Sigma began to raise money to support polio research, and when the cure was found, the National organization took on the current focus of supporting play therapy in hospital settings. The Mr. Robbie Page Pageant is a male beauty pageant that includes fraternity men and other UCM men who participate in a variety of competitions, including talent, group dance, and interview. In 2014, there were 11 contestants in the pageant. In addition to this event, we also hold Pennies for Page, which is a penny war to raise additional funds.
In 2014, Nu chapter contributed $8255.79 to the Sigma National Foundation! We have been awarded the Foundation Highest Honors for the last two years for our continued support at a high national level. We have also been awarded with a Leadership Grant by the Foundation. At the 2013, we were recognized as one of the Top 10 Contributing Chapters.
In addition to supporting our National Foundation, we also donated financially to: Theta Chi, Make a Wish, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Girl Scouts, Big Pink for Breast Cancer, Lambda Chi, Sigma Tau Gamma, Tees for Tots, City Union Mission, Grant's Cause, Delta Chi, UCM GAMMA, Go Big or Go Home 5K. Our total financial giving for 2014 totaled $13,440.04!
We also participate with our time and energy in many other organizations philanthropic events such as Lambda Chi's Watermelon Bust, Sigma Tau Gamma's Sisters in the Sand, and Tau Kappa Epsilon's Laura Culp Pageant to name a few. Tri Sigma Nu Chapter also participates in the Big Pink Volleyball Tournament in support of the fight against breast cancer. In the 2013 we did all of the above and participated in MLK Day of Service, Highway Clean Up, volunteered for Warrensburg School District color run, Mule Haul, made visits to the Hope House, and more! In 2014, over 96% of our members donated at least 30 hours individually to community service!
